Monday Muse: Seven Inspirations for the Week
Art of Living, Happy Moments, Compensation, Success and Self Forgiveness.
1/ The book I’ve been reading this week:
If you’ve been reading my newsletter for a while you will know that I love synchronicities.
I picked up a random book off my shelf, one that I’d read a few times before. The Art of Living by Bob Proctor.
I flicked through the pages and a chapter caught my eye, How to Tell if You’re Doing it Wrong. It just happened to be on the same subject that I have been studying this week! I love it when that happens!
This book has been taken from one of his workshops and is full of lessons and wisdom on how to live the life we want.
How to get whatever we want in life
How to erase negative thought patterns
How to retrain the brain for success
How to get the maximum out of what we do
As with all his teachings, the emphasis is on our thoughts, our thinking and our mindset. In fact, chapter 7 is called, You Are the Sum Total of All Your Thoughts. Then he goes on to teach us how we can use our thoughts correctly to get exactly what we want out of life.
I think it’s one I will be rereading for the rest of my life.
2/ What I’m grateful for this week:
I saw a quote a few days ago about how we should create small happy moments for ourselves. I realised that I’ve been doing that unconsciously for a while now.
I think it started with me starting a regular gratitude practice quite a few years ago. Each day I would write 10 things that I was grateful for in my journal. It was a great start to the day.
The thing about practising gratitude is that the more you are grateful, the more you seem to have to be grateful about.
When I read the quote I realised that it wasn’t the huge things I was grateful for and that made my day rich.
Of course, there are big things I’m grateful for, but it almost goes without saying that I am grateful for them. Blessings in my life like my daughters, my sister and her family, my home in my beautiful village where I have fabulous neighbours.
What I’ve found though is that when you notice the small things, it changes everything.
I suppose it’s called being mindful. Slowing down, seeing things that maybe you didn’t see before. Taking a moment to notice how you feel when you do see them.
3/ My favourite quote this week:
If you place a thing into the centre of your life
That lacks the power to nourish
It will eventually poison everything that you are
And destroy you
A simple a thing as an idea
Or your perspective on yourself, of the world
No one can be the source of your contentment,
It lies within, in the centre.
I found this quote from a song by the group Faithless written on a piece of paper in a book that was on my library shelves. My daughter had written it out years ago and placed it there.
I remember the song and how the lyrics resonated deeply with me when I first heard them.
As I look back on my life I can see the absolute truth of this quote.
I can see where I allowed things to be very important to me that really didn’t nourish my soul.
And now, I can see how much happier and how peaceful I am because I make sure that what is important to me, the things I give my energy to, nourish me. I can see how now my contentment comes from within, not from an external source, not from anyone else.
Simple things like lighting my fire last night, making a pot of tea with a blend of herbs and feeling so very grateful for everything I have in my life.
My rich abundant life that I have created from the ashes, from my despair and pain. I have transmuted that into a life that I love living.
4/ My healthy tip of the week:
I realised something this week about healthy eating. It’s all about seeing the end result.
Let’s be honest crappy junk food is tasty! Crisps (or chips if you are in the USA), sugar, alcohol, and often the quickest meals are the ones you just pop in the oven, ready-made pizza and fries. In the UK you can buy whole meals where it’s all pre-cooked and you just put it in the microwave or oven. (That hasn’t really reached France yet, thank goodness!)
So when I’m trying to eat healthily which is most of the time, I try to remember why. I see myself as healthy with nice skin and a good figure. I see myself with a strong immune system and lots of energy.
I’m already seeing myself as that person. So if I’m tempted to eat something not so good for me, I just think of the result I want and it usually makes me choose a better option.
This works well on all levels, not just physical health. You can see yourself as the way you want to be. See yourself waking up happy in the morning, being calm in stressful situations, setting boundaries and being confident.
Before you know it, you’ll start becoming that person. Your self-image will change.
5/ This is what I’ve been studying this week:
I’m fascinated by the Laws of the Universe and this week I’ve been learning more about the Law of Compensation.
It’s very simple. What you do affects what you get. You get what you give. In other words, you will be compensated for everything that you do, in line with the effort and quality you put in.
You will always be compensated for your efforts, for your contribution, however much or however little that is.
It’s based on just 3 factors.
The need for what you do
The quality of what you offer
The difficulty in replacing you
The second point is probably the most important. We can often miss the point of this and only look at what we are going to get out of something.
Bob Proctor said, “The law says what you put out is what comes back. Give your best. It doesn’t matter what anybody else is doing. You want to make certain that you are one of the most effective human beings you could ever be.”
If every day we try to do our best, better than we’ve ever done before, we have the right attitude.
It doesn’t matter what other people do, it only matters what we do.
6/ This is what I’ve been listening to on repeat:
You know how sometimes you just need to listen to something to get you pumped up or to celebrate a big win? This is the song for me.
I loved it in the 1998 movie adaptation of Great Expectations with Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow.
I hadn’t listened to it for a few years and then a few months ago when my first book was published it popped into my head and I played it nice and loud, and danced around my house while feeling very proud of myself.
I’ve now got it on my playlist of favourites and play it when I need to remind myself that all I’m working for will come to fruition. That I will have success and reach my goals.
7/ My favourite meditation this week:
One from the archives today!
Forgiveness is often seen as something we extend to others, but true healing begins with forgiving ourselves.
This meditation has been created to guide you through the process of self-forgiveness, allowing you to let go of past mistakes and embrace your inherent worth and compassion.
Self-forgiveness is a journey of self-discovery and healing.
It involves acknowledging our imperfections and understanding that we are human and prone to making mistakes.
By practising self-forgiveness, we can release the emotional weight that holds us back, and gain a deeper sense of inner peace and well-being.
This meditation will help you cultivate self-compassion, reconnect with your true self, and pave the way for a more harmonious and fulfilling life.
