Overcoming Procrastination Meditation

Includes 5 Journal Prompts

It's the ever-present temptation to delay, the seductive call of "later" that leads us to procrastinate.

We all know the feeling: the project left untouched, the task perpetually moved to tomorrow’s to-do list.

As a fellow traveller on this journey, I understand how procrastination isn't just about being lazy or disorganised—it’s often rooted in fear, anxiety, or a daunting sense of overwhelm. It whispers doubts about our abilities and conjures the spectre of failure, making starting the hardest part.

But what if we could silence these doubts, not with harsh self-criticism, but with understanding and compassion?

That’s where this specially designed meditation comes in. It’s crafted to cut through the fog of procrastination by cultivating focus and clarity.

This practice isn't just about getting things done; it’s about discovering why we stall and addressing those reasons with gentle awareness.

It’s about breaking the cycle at its start, equipping us with the calm and determination needed to begin—and more importantly, to continue.

Let’s breathe away hesitation and embrace the liberation of action.

Journal Prompts - Overcoming Procrastination

  1. Reflect on a recent instance of procrastination. What task were you avoiding, and what thoughts or emotions were present when you decided to delay it? Write about how understanding these feelings might help you approach the task differently next time.

  2. Think about a goal or project that you've been putting off. What small, manageable step can you take today to move it forward? Write a plan for how you can break this task into smaller steps and tackle each one with patience and compassion.

  3. Consider the role of fear and anxiety in your procrastination habits. What are you afraid might happen if you fail or even if you succeed? How can you address these fears with kindness and reassurance, rather than self-criticism?

  4. Visualise yourself successfully completing a task you've been procrastinating on. How does it feel to have it done? What positive outcomes come from taking action? Write about how you can use this positive visualisation to motivate yourself when procrastination tempts you.

  5. Write a letter to yourself from a place of compassion and understanding, addressing your struggles with procrastination. Offer yourself support, encouragement, and practical advice on how to overcome the challenges you face in getting started and staying focused.

These prompts aim to delve deep into the personal and emotional aspects of procrastination, encouraging a compassionate and understanding approach to overcoming it. Happy journaling!

(You can choose to use them all or just pick one or two.)
